Our Environmental Philosophy

The Shredders pursues a wide range of sustainable business practices designed to reduce the impact of the environment and doing our part of “going green.”  We conduct our business and operations with consideration for our environmental impact, and seek to lead our industry in reducing the impact. Because our operation depends on vehicles to a considerable extent, we focus strongly on making our transportation networks as efficient and environmentally sound as possible. We apply this approach to our facility as well, particularly with regard to our recycling program. We have also invested in more efficient technologies and transitioned to go paperless.  One of our cornerstones of our emissions reduction program is to use the most energy efficient mode of transportation available while still meeting the pickups of our customers.

Routing Software Technology

The Shredders has customized our own unique software to improve efficiency.  In the recent years we have integrated our software tools to make this possible.  Our routing technology reduces fuel consumption and emission by optimizing the process of:
 

• Allocating our pick-ups and deliveries to the most efficient number of vehicles each day at our facility, thus keeping vehicles off the road where ever possible.

• Load vehicles most efficiently for the order of pickup, so that routes and miles driven can be kept to minimum.

• Routing vehicles so that they reach all required destinations in the least amount of time and miles driven.

• Selecting route options that minimize idling time spent waiting for lights and turns, thus reducing fuel use and emissions even if miles driven remain the same.

• Identifying stopping locations that enable multiple pickups without repositioning our vehicles.

• Keeping drivers on route and on schedule via handheld device.

• Updating our fleet on an annual basis.

The Shredders Paperless Technology saves time, money, and trees.

Introduced in 2005, The Shredders paperless scheduling and invoicing system enables customers to pull together all information needed, online. You can view all pickups, invoices, and certificates of destruction via the internet. There are no paper pickup slips needed due the technology that we customized. Our software transmits data electronically to our customers which is uploaded into our network servers immediately. Going paperless is not only greener, it’s also better for business because it eliminates the errors and incomplete information that cause so much paper documentation.

Recycling Program

99.5% of all material received is recycled. Once material is shredded it is baled into 1500 lb. bales and sent to a recycling mill via railcar.
